Chocolate Dipped Pears with Toffee Crunch
This is such a simple and elegant dessert that only takes minutes to make. I love the contrast of the smooth pears with the dark chocolate, finished with a sweet toffee crunch. You can change up the recipe using different kinds of chocolate and vary the toppings as you like. Chopped nuts are also a nice variation is this recipe. When working with fresh pears, the ripeness between each fruit will differ so I recommend buying more pears than you need in case some are not ripe enough. You want a juicy pear for this recipe.
- Ingredients
- 4 ripe pears (Bartlett, Seckel or Anjou)
- 4 cups dark chocolate chips
- 2 cups Skor bits
Directions:
Line a cookie sheet with wax paper. Place the Skor bits into a bowl. Turn each pear over and using a sharp knife, cut a square around the core of the pear about 1 inch in width and continue to cut into the fruit about 3/4 of the way up. Remove core and seeds. This will help the pears stand up and makes the dish easier to eat. Melt the chocolate in a sauce pan over medium heat, stirring constantly, until smooth. Grab each pear by the stem or use a fork to lower into the melted chocolate. Use a spoon to coat the pear, leaving about 1/2 inch from the top. Place the pear onto the wax paper and sprinkle with the Skor bits. You may have to use your fingers to press them into the sides. Repeat the process with the remaining fruit and once complete, chill in the refrigerator for 1 hour until set. Place the pears onto a platter and serve.
