Grilled Steak with Blackberry Reduction
I just love the word “reduction”. It’s a concentration of flavors and is meant to enhance, rather than overpower, your main course. This delicious blackberry reduction only has 4 ingredients and is a perfect compliment to grilled meat. In this recipe I am using steak but it is also excellent with pork, chicken or salmon. For a sweeter sauce, use berries that are very ripe.
- Ingredients:
- 1 cup fresh blackberries
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
- Fresh pepper to taste
- 4 – 5 oz steaks
- 2 tablespoons Montreal steak spice
directions:
Season the steaks with the spice on both sides and rub into the meat. Set your grill to a medium-high heat and sear the steaks for 2 minutes on each side. Lower the heat to medium-low and continue cooking for 5 minutes or until desired tenderness is reached. Meanwhile, place the remaining ingredients into a saucepan and bring to a boil. Lower the heat to medium and continue cooking for 10 minutes until the berries have broken down and the mixture is thickened. Remove from heat and strain the reduction into a bowl through a fine strainer so that only the liquid passes through. Discard seeds. Return the liquid to the pan and keep warm. When the steaks are ready, pour a little of the reduction onto the plate and top with grilled steak.
